Methods of ordering your Repeat Prescriptions
If you take medicine often, you might have something called a repeat prescription. About a week before you run out of medicine, let us know that you need more. You can tell us in any of these ways:
You can also request medication via repeat slip or on paper by dropping it into the box at Reception
Non-urgent advice: Patient Notice
Not all medicines are given as repeat prescriptions. Some medicines are left off repeat because of risks involved or because they need to be checked regularly.
It’s up to you and the clinician to decide if a medicine should be on repeat. This conversation will be written in your medical record, which you can see in your NHS App.
If your medicine isn’t on repeat, the receptionist might ask you to fill out a form on AccuRx Triage to talk to a doctor before we can issue it.
Prescription Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.65
- 3-month PPC: £31.25
- 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

HRT Pre-Payment Certificate
From the 1 April 2023, the Government is launching the HRT Pre-Payment Certificate (PPC) to reduce prescription costs for women receiving Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
The HRT PPC will be available to buy in one single payment online, or in-person at some pharmacies. You can call 0300 330 2089 for help and support.
Before buying an HRT PPC, you should check if:
- you’re eligible for free NHS prescriptions using the eligibility checker: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check
- your medicine is covered by the HRT PPC. For a list of eligible HRT medication, visit: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc-medicines
- a 3 or 12 month PPC is more suitable. It covers all NHS prescriptions, not just HRT items. Visit: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/ppc

What to do with old medicines
Take these to your local pharmacy. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
Pharmacy Consultations
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
Visit our Pharmacy Consultations page for more information.
